Why do some parent choose to homeschool? Why would you send your child to a public school, a charter school or private school? These are questions begging for answers!

Traditional public schools have been the dominant institution for educating children, however in recent years, school choice has become a popular option for families. School choice is the term used to describe the many ways students access their K-12 education that allows families to choose the educational opportunity best aligned with their family values. These options could include homeschooling, charter schools, public schools and private schools that can be religious or nonsectarian. School choice can be empowering for families to make decisions about their children’s educational trajectory in the public K-12 school, however, research indicates there continues to be an impact on equity and diversity. There are studies that question if school choice promotes or hinders diversity by race, socioeconomical status and abilities. Research implies that school choice can impact the racial diversity of a school and community and can lead to segregation in schools.

Microaggressions https://www.franchone.com/2020/07/01/microaggressions/ Wed, 01 Jul 2020 20:14:32 +0000 http://www.franchone.com/?p=987 Microaggressions have been defined as brief and common daily verbal, behavioral, and environmental communications, whether intentional or unintentional, that transmit hostile, derogatory, or negative messages to a target person because they belong to a stigmatized group. As a result of private school education and occupying predominantly white spaces (Elijah Anderson, The White Space, January 2015) for most of life, I speak in a vernacular that is often perceived as the way a “white person” speaks… So this is where I am starting with my first Podcast, “Unpacking.” This will happen July 18, 2020.

When Art is Your Therapy

I’ve always created art in some form, whether it’s dance, singing, acting, or any art in between. So, my recent entrance into the world of artistic expression through painting isn’t a new thing… it’s not a stray from my heart! This video is just a snippet of some of my current works. However,  I am creating new pieces daily.

The Price Just Went Up https://www.franchone.com/2020/05/16/the-price-just-went-up/ Sun, 17 May 2020 02:43:00 +0000 http://www.franchone.com/?p=924 Found a place for one of my paintings. (I don’t normally do landscape but— I was inspired by Bob Ross.) I purchased this frame at a thrift store for $4 many months ago. It is heavy as hell! Probably weighs 30 lbs. and my piece fits perfectly!

Check out my growing Art Gallery!

I was informed that artists must not get attached to their work. We must be able to sell our art. I’m not in it for the money. If it will make you happy to have my art in your hands… let me know– I have both prints and originals for sale.

Jersey Girls, Jersey Mall https://www.franchone.com/2020/05/15/jersey-girls-jersey-mall/ Fri, 15 May 2020 23:11:00 +0000 http://www.franchone.com/?p=909 Growing up New Jersey….there were at least six malls within our immediate reach, so basically I grew up always going to the mall. I worked at the mall, the arcade was at the mall. The rollerskating rink was at the mall. The movie theater was at the mall. Willowbrook, Paramus Park, Wayne, Livingston, Short Hills, Rockaway….they probably all have different names now. When I arrived in Las Vegas for my first year of college … They had only 3 malls! In all of Vegas! What is that?!😳🤔🤦🏾‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ anyway They only have three here in Charlotte too. Lol. Malls are a dying breed. Guess I’m keeping my money in my pockets anyway.
